Something like ESP8266_1 connects to ESP8266_2 using serial, ESP8266_1 pulls up and down the GPIO_0, GPIO_2 and RST lines of ESP8266 and starts sending the new firmware.
Most of this is not rocket science, but I am too lazy to reverse engineer esptool.py as to what exactly to send, especially the blob of program code that apparentely is sent to to communicate with the outside world.
I thought maybe someone has done this before? Or has already reverse engineered whatever esptool.py sends (and receives)?
There is a tool for 'lazy' engineer:P
One-press burning tools for ESP8266 modules which is very helpful for batch burning. With the burning tool, you only have to have one press on the button of the software to start the burning, and then the burning process will be completed automatically with the help of UART flow control. If you feel interested, you may please get more about it at http://www.ebay.com/itm/282286419729. It is ready with pin connectors for ESP-01, ESP-12 etc. If your module does not have a matched connector here, you may please using 5 flying wires connecting to a connector which is matched with the connector on your module.

What ESP's can fit out of the box? I need ESP01 and ESP201.
all of ESP-01, ESP-12x, ESP201 serials can fit the burning toolkit
Since they are nearly the same as per the programming and uart communication, only expect different pinout of connectors so with different connectors of programming and uart communication.
Actually, even as per the pinouts of programming and uart communication, esp-12 and esp201 serials are the same.
