Sorry that your 1st ESP8266-01 "QUAD;4Mbit" can not use the new AT firmware, because the new AT firmware is too large to fit in 4Mbit flash, you need 8Mbit or larger flash to run it.

Your 2nd ESP8266-01 "QUAD;8Mbit" can use the latest AT firmware http://bbs.espressif.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1859.
More details about downloading address please refer to documentation 4A-ESP8266__AT_Instruction_Set.

I have 2 versions of ESP8266-01
The 1st one is :

flash vendor:
C8h : GD
flash devID:
4013h
QUAD;4Mbit
crystal:
26 Mhz

AP MAC: 1A-FE-34-F3-02-CD
STA MAC: 18-FE-34-F3-02-CD

The 2nd one is :

flash vendor:
C8h : GD
flash devID:
4014h
QUAD;8Mbit
crystal:
26 Mhz

AP MAC: 1A-FE-34-E4-D1-6A
STA MAC: 18-FE-34-E4-D1-6A
05A0000000077000

I want to flash both modules and I'm flashing it with ESP Flash Download tool V2.3 but I get confused with the appropriate bin files for each module and with the addresses. Can please someone guide me ?

Here is our AT firmware http://bbs.espressif.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1859.
Please download the bin files into Flash using the latest ESP Flash Download Tool.

If your problem is still unsolved, please provide the captured picture of ESP Flash Download Tool while downloading.

esp_init_data_default.bin : 0x7c000
blank.bin : 0x7e000
boot_v1.5.bin : 0x00000
user1.1024.new.2.bin : 0x01000 (512k)

SPI Speed : 40MHz
SPI Mode : QIO
SPI Flash Size : 4Mbit (also tried 8Mbit, either way the flash does not error)

Note:
The tool will NOT detect anything in the info window when it loads, or when the device is plugged in. However, it does show the MAC address and some generic details in the info window AFTER I click Start. As mentioned, flash completes with no errors. I've tried other 1.x versions to no avail as well, and I have even tried going back and loading v.0.9.2 to no avail!!!

Further Info:
Not a wiring issue: I can flash other firmware such as nodemcu without any issue and ping it from a terminal, so I know for sure that my FTDI hardware and wiring is all set up and working properly.

Not a bricked device: I have tried using the espressif tool as well as other tools and cannot get the ESP-01 back in working order, even with v0.9.2. But as mentioned above, I can get a response with nodemcu. I'm stuck with nodemcu or nothing, and that makes no sense at all.

I feel like I must be missing SOMETHING about this espressif tool and process.
