U:Kit - smart IoT smoke and motion sensor with ESP8266 inside

U:Kit is a smart smoke and motion sensor kit that is with ESP82666 inside and based on an ESP8266 framework called Sming.
The project is live on Kickstarter and it will help release the software, hardware and 3d models as open source.

Make sure to check the project and support it.

Additional free RAM for ESP82266.

RAM is quite limited in ESP8266. The article below explains tricks that can be used to get extra free RAM.

It should work for both NONOS and FreeRTOS SDKs.

Live debugging applications on ESP8266 device

Development and troubleshooting for ESP8266 with open-source tools just got a lot easier. Thanks to the ESP-GDBStub project our application can be debugged live on the device.

Checkout out this video teaser and the article with the details.

Get phone mac from SmartConfig

When I am using the SmartConfig I can see that it logs the phone mac address of the device that runs the IoT app: TYPE: ESPTOUCH T|PHONE MAC: xx yy zz aa bb cc T|AP MAC : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Is there a way to get that phone mac or ap mac address in my code? I would like to use the phone mac as part of...

ESP-14 Flashing

There is a new ESP chip that has integrated low-energy STMicro STM8S003 MCU named ESP-14 . The idea of having these two MCUs sounds good to me. What I still do not know is if there is a way to program the ESP MCU? Can we set from STM8 the ESP in flash mode? Can we send the new firmware to the ESP vi...

Does SmartConfig support AES key?

Looking at the description of SmartConfig for CC3000 (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php ... art_Config) I can see that an (AES) key is supported to encrypt the communication. Are there plans to support this in the ESP SDK?

MDNS client

Is it possible to create a mDNS client on the ESP8266? I want to be able to read information about advertised services like MQTT that are already provided from other devices on the network.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Wake up from deep sleep by interrupt?

Actually, esp8266 can be waked-up by an external GPIO by connecting the reset pin of esp8266 to the external MCU gpio. In SDK , the deep-sleep API is system_deep_sleep(uint32 time_in_us); If the parameter time_in_us==0 , esp8266 will never wake up until an external signal trigger the reset pin. If ...

Wake up from deep sleep by interrupt?

As far as I understand at the moment with the current SDK it is not possible to wake up from deep sleep using GPIO, or any other interrupts? Is this shortcoming of the current SDK or the hardware, ESP8266, cannot do this? If it is only the SDK are there any plans to add this feature soon?

Smart Config modes

In the 0.9.5 SDK there are some smart_config modes that are available. Looking at the documentation for the smartconfig_start funciton I can see two types that can be used: AirKiss or ESP-TOUCH. Can someone give us more details what exactly these modes are and how we can use them for faster configur...
