AT+CIPSTART - DNS Fail
AT+CIPSTART - DNS Fail
Postby ballj19 » Tue Mar 08, 2016 3:27 am
Here is an example of what happens when I try using the WiFi from my iPhone's hotspot
I cannot get AT+CIPSTART to connect to any web server, and get DNS Fail whenever I try.
I have the same issue using a TP-Link TL-WN725N in access point mode. To clarify, I can get the ESP8266 to connect to both of these using AT+CWJAP, the problem lies with the CIPSTART command.
Whereas when I use the WiFi from my home router the connection succeeds.
I need to be able to use the ESP8266 away from home, does anyone have any advice on how to use a hotspot connection?

Please download the bin files into Flash using ESP Flash Download Tool.
If your problem is still unsolved, please provide the captured picture of ESP Flash Download Tool while downloading, and the bin files you downloaded and the corresponding address.
Please notice that blank.bin needs to be downloaded in 2 different addresses as initialization.

I had to face the same problem not connecting to DNS due to ESP8266 not getting a proper IP address.
Normally all router provides IP address ranges from 192.168.1.xx to 192.168.1.xx.
But android mobile hotspot provides ranges from 192.168.43.xx I had ser according to that IP address was 192.168.43.8 and it's working fine.

This is an very old issue two years ago. The solution has already merged in our AT long time ago.
If you still have a DNS issue, please check:
- AT+RESTORE to initialize the module first, to see if it solves the problem.
- To check if the router is 5G only. ESP8266 can only support 2.4G.
