Clock Source MEMS
Clock Source MEMS
Postby vandiwa » Thu Mar 03, 2016 2:52 pm
I'm trying to use a MEMS oscillator to drive the clock of the ESP8266EX, but it appears that this is not working well at all. Compared to a module with a crystal, I am producting all malformed frames. The general center frequency of transmission is good, but the data in all my packets is corrupt. I've tried putting a MEMS on a working module and it won't start running with the MEMS output applied to the ESP Pin 28. It will communicate over the UART when the MEMS output is connected to pin 27, but still produces mostly corrupt RF packets. Is there some kind of feedback loop going on with the crystal so that a strict clock input is not enough to maintain the internal clock? Has anyone successfully used an external clock source to drive the ESP?

Hi vandiwa,
Please help provide the model and the datasheet for this MEMS oscillator.
The output of the oscillator should be connected to XTAL_IN(Pin28) of ESP8266EX.
Thanks.
