I have followed the System Description v1.4 document (Fig 1-13 Schematic of ESP8266EX as a slave device) and put a DIO Flash (W25X40) on HSPI, connected a UART to U0TXD/U0RXD and SD to the SDIO bus.
The chip shows up on SDIO when started in SD boot mode (MTDO pulled high), and has the serial bootloader running when MTDO is pulled low. Trying to download image via the serial interface fails and hangs the device, probably because the Flash is on the wrong interface for it.
Is there a way I can use the serial download protocol in ROM to program the Flash? I saw, in the 8H-ESP8266__Interface_SDIO_SPI_Mode__EN_v0.1 app note, that you have a way of doing it with XTCOM_UTIL. Can you share this version of XTCOM_UTIL?
Thank you.

Hi,
A new version of flash download tool that can support HSPI flash download mode is estimated to be released this week.
Once it is ok, we will let you know.
Thanks.
