If you want to use ESP8266 as a serial of transparent transmission application, but not to an external microcontroller to use the AT command to configure, then this firmware is very suitable for you!

Theoretically, you use two ESP8266 write this firmware, A module and B module are respectively.
You login WEB configuration page on module A, enter the SSID and password of module B, A join B's AP.
When the join AP is successful, between the module A and module B built up a serial transmission channel.

But I haven't time to test this. You can try it.
