ESP8266 RTOS SDK sample compiling error

We are having some issues to compile sample code from RTOS SDK, any help would be very appreciated.

These were the steps they took to compile the sample code:

1- Installed VM "ESP8266_lubuntu_20141021.ova"
2- Created a new "ESP8266" folder

3- Installed"git" on VM using command "sudo apt-get install git"
4- Downloaded from GitHub latest RTOS SDK. "git clone https://github.com/espressif/ESP8266_RTOS_SDK.git"

5- Edited "gen_misc.sh" from directory: "ESP8266_RTOS_SDK/examples/smart_config"

6- Changed file permission "chmod +rwx *"

7- Executed "gen_misc.sh"

10- Kept getting compiling error
