about esp8266 communication with ardino-uno

sanket here, i worked on esp8266 wifi mesh , Mesh is working properly i am happy to work on this module, so i m planing to go next step that is i want create a some application on micro-controller and have to send the status of the application through wifi mesh, i m fresher so I am unable to figure out how this work. any document for that? we can really do this? and my senior is telling that whatever you modify in the code an all it should not effect on mesh. so how to communicate with mesh from ardino-uno? and how it will receive the data from ardino-uno, please guide to me how to do this.
