Super slow GPIO input performance?

After many tests, it looks like the GPIO input hovers around 1 mhz, even with direct register reads.

Can we please get official numbers on the GPIO performance?

Also, is there any way to speed that up?
Maybe by adjusting a special register?

Overclocking to 160 mhz isn't changing anything.
