Maybe you can refer to the API Reference Guide.
It says

For the high-temperature scenario, user can call system_phy_freq_trace_enable(1) in user_rf_pre_init to enable frequency offset trace function.

Does the option make the chip try to stay on the right frequency or does it just log deviation?

Documentation is very poor on this api.
If it is improved, I'd also like to know what the numbers mean. If enabled, new stuff like this is logged:
f r0, scandone
sta scan trace -19
reconnect
f r-19, scandone
