Hi wwg,

I was wondering if you got to the bottom of how this stuff works? I too am trying to get it working but no joy :(

I have one of these
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pcs-FT2 ... 20717.html

and am using it fine to flash my ESP12f by manually switching GPIO0, restarting and then flashing using esptool.py. The esptool wiki says that to get it working automatically you need to connect
CH_PD ("enable")/ Reset to RTS
GPIO0 to DTR

The logic makes sense to me (i.e. assuming the FT232 drops GPIO0 to gnd and pulses the reset) but this doesn't seem to work. BTW - my serial converter also has a pin labelled CTS (rather than RTS) but also has a "hole" labelled RTS but neither seems to work.

Your suggestion seems to use 13 and 15 so was wondering what serial converter you used and what flashing tool to get it working?

thanks in advance

Lee.

Hello,

I've been looking for a while now on how to get an ESP8266 to communicate directly with a smartphone without any internet connection.

Does anybody know how to do that?

I'm guessing not.

It really would require an internet connection huh?

I'd post this as a general question rather than buried here. The answer is its VERY do-able .... so post in the general forum and you'll get some great answers :-)
