I'm using the firmware downloaded from here :
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=919&p=3092
I've followed the readme directions in the documentation (below), put in the flashing parameters into the flashing download tool (attached screen cap) and it flashes the ESP.
When I connect via putty, there's no response to any comms(attached screen cap). I can type, but no response. This happens with every different espressif firmware I've found.
When i disconnect power and re-connect, i get garbage, then a 'ready', and the same non-responsive window.
What am I doing wrong? I can't get any of these firmwares to work?
readme.txt in documentation :
download:
boot_v1.2+.bin 0x00000
user1.1024.new.2.bin 0x01000
blank.bin 0x7e000 & 0xfe000
or
eagle.flash.bin 0x00000
eagle.irom0text.bin 0x40000
blank.bin 0x7e000 & 0xfe000
*NOTICE*:
1.If you use Esp Flash Download Tool, please MAKE SURE to choose FLASH SIZE to 8Mbit.
2.UPDATE is not supported in non-boot mode

Hi,
According to the "ready" from your UART output, it seems that your AT firmware runs well.
Please notice that AT command is ended with \r\n (CR LF), a new line.
Or you can use SecureCRT as UART tool, and set it to be "new line mode".

Thankyou, that was exactly the problem. Putty wasn't able to provide the correct line feeds. SecureCRT, with a little bit of play (i.e. Edit/Reset) allowed me to use a terminal to access the AT functionality.
Thanks very much.

You can use another Serial Terminal emulator for Windows:
Termite version 3.2 - complete setup
http://www.compuphase.com/software_termite.htm
Configure those parameters, and select your COM port.
