Cannot connect to AP

I bought the ESP8266 already flashed with the AT command set. It's connected through a FT232 module to a COM port on a Windows 8.1 machine. I'm using ESPlorer to communicate, though the Arduino Serial port gives similar results:

I'm not the software expert I was 40 years ago, so I'm not sure I want to reflash the unit. Can someone please advise how to connect to the AP?

Hi,

Please have a try with the latest AT firmware, AT_v0.50.

Notice:
1. Use Espressif Official Flash download tool to download firmware into Flash, choose the corresponding Flash size.
2. blank.bin has to be downloaded as initialization according to the documentation.
