A water level gauge for cisterns controlled by an ESP8266

I've connected a ultrasonic sensor to the ESP8266 and now I can measure the water level of my cistern periodically and can send the measurement to Thingspeak.

The complete description can be found in my blog: https://www.matthias-jentsch.de/2016/03/22/the-wi-fi-water-level-gauge-2-0-my-own-iot

I want to know that the if Ultrasonic can work better for my condition? If it reflects the ultrasonics waves from the surface of water?
