Is it possible to send a wifi probe request ?

Hi

Just wondering if its possible to send a probe request with the ESP.

If not, then is there any info on when the esp8266 sends them itself. I can see probe requests from time to time on a wireshark trace.

I have been trying to understand the power usage of the esp8266 --- I can see lots of unusual spikes of current demand from time to time--- even when the node is not doing anything.

(I will post up the power measurements when I done as they are quite interesting - especially at startup ! I am using a agilent 34410a to data log the measurements so have very good
quality measurements)
