What is the max. voltage you can apply to the ADC (TOUT, Pin 6) without destroying the ESP8266. Is there an internal clipinng like a diode?

that's true, but not the answer to the question. The nominal range is well documented in the datasheet and i know them. The maximum values are not documented.
What are the maximum values you can apply without destroying the chip?
In my project it might be that there are about 2.5V. I will add two diodes for clipping this voltage. The result is 1.4 V. Naturally this will give no valid reading, but does it destroy the chip? What about -0.3V using a Schottky diode for clipping negative voltages?
