Are the MAC addresses of ESP8266 unique ?
Are MAC addresses burned into ESP8266 ROM ? (i know there are AT commands to change MAC; I am interested only in the default MAC provided by vendor)
Will Espressif have more than 1 OUI ?
I see the OUI (first 3 octets of MAC) for Espressif are:
18:FE:34 - for STA
1A:FE:34 - for AP
For one specific ESP8266 module, the NIC (last 3 octets of MAC) are the same for STA and AP.
I have several ESP8266 modules and I can see all of them have different MAC address (last 3 octets of MAC are different).
But using only 1 OUI, with the last 3 octets (NIC) different, there can only be around 16 million unique MAC addresses.
So, using only 1 OUI, after making around 16 million ESP8266 chips, the MAC addresses will overlap.
